Maurice D. Wilson
Executive Vice President/COO
Born 1953 in Chicago Illinois, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1973, which began his career in government service. After 26 years of service, Maurice retired at the top of the enlisted ranks as a Master Chief Petty Officer. Prior to his retirement, he held the position of Command Master Chief for the USNS Mercy and was the Training and Communications Division Officer for the MIS Department at Naval Medical Center Balboa responsible for the implementation and planning for the Command-wide medical information system: Composite Health-Care System (CHCS). In 1996 he began his volunteer work for the San Diego Urban League and in 1998 after his retirement joined the League’s executive management team as the agency’s first MIS Director and developed the agency’s first network. In 1999 he assumed the responsibility of Director of Employment and Training, in 2003 he was appointed as the Vice President for Business and Workforce Development and in 2006 was appointed as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the League and is currently holding that position. In May 2003, he was appointed to the Mayor’s Science and Technology Commission and re-appointed for a second term in August, 2004.
Maurice has a background in numerous technical fields ranging from: General Medical Technician, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Emergency Medical Technician, Combat Medical Technician, Aviation Physiology, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Water and Wastewater Management, Certified Pest Control, Foodservice Sanitation, Public Health, Infectious Disease Control, Total Quality Management (TQM) Facilitator; Navy Rights and Responsibility Facilitator; Telecommunications System's Design, Implementation and Management. He has attended countless leadership and management courses and is a graduate of the Navy's prestigious Senior Enlisted Academy. He has also attended countless technical courses and is an accomplished web developer and has developed an impressive data-enabled website in PHP code. He has completed the Pacific Institute’s “Imagine 21 and Offender Employment Continuum Facilitator Training. And, more recently he completed a professional development course for perspective CEO’s by J. Howard and Associates: “Efficacy Training for Professionals of Color” and is an avid reader and advocate for continuous self-improvement.

San Diego Urban League Young Professionals;
San Diego Urban League Guild;
City of San Diego Black Family Technology Awareness Week, Host Coordinator
San Diego Community Technology Network – a 49-member FBO consortium

Maurice is/has served on the following boards:

He is the Publisher of the Urban League's Diversity Works! Magazine and the Employment/Career Business Guide and produces a weekly Employment/Career section in a local community newspaper “The Monitor News,” which focuses on employment and career advice to over 10,000 readers.
He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Telecommunication Systems Management through National University.
Maurice is married to the former Ethel McGee and resides in Lemon Grove California.
