Enhance and improve relations with the community and general public; develop and implement community programs and fundraising activities on behalf of the Urban League of San Diego County.
History
The Urban League Guild was established in 1942 as a fundraising component to the National Urban League. As a result, Guilds are now operation in more than 85 cities under the National Council of Urban League Guilds. The principle concerns of the Urban League Guilds are in the areas of interpretations, leadership development, and fund-raising.

It is with great pleasure that I share with you my first message as the new President of the Urban League Guild of San Diego County. I look forward to the future of the Guild. We will continue to follow the course set by the Past-President, Keith Goosby and the Executive Board. On behalf of the Guild, I would like to thank Keith for all of his time and effort in making the organization better.
I would also like to thank the many members who continue to make a difference in the organization. I would like to continue the course, trying to reach as many new members as possible. I want to build a solid network with all members, so that the Guild could fill gaps and provide support to the mission of the Urban League of San Diego County.
I consider myself fortunate to take leadership of the Guild at a very exciting time where the word “Change” is at the center of our nation. How we change in the future will require that we leap across ethnic lines as well as intellectual boundaries. It is not easy to convince communities or a world to respect, much less support institutions committed to challenging society’s fundamental assumptions. But it is our obligation to make that case: both to explain our purposes and achieve them so well that our precious families, youth and communities survive and prosper in this new world.
The Urban League Guild cannot do this alone, and will need every individual, organization, educational institutions, and the business community to help us in the endeavor. But all of us know that Urban League has a special role. That is why we are here; that is why it means so much to us.
I look forward to another exceptional year, and look forward to everyone joining us in celebratingCHANGE, and together can continue our commitment to the mission of the Urban League of San Diego County
In your Service, Your President
Monte A. Jones
The Urban League has a historic legacy of working to empower and transform communities. Since our inception, we have worked to eliminate the opportunity gaps existing between African-Americans, whites and other communities of color.
Fundamental to our success has been volunteer involvement. Volunteers have functioned as the arms, legs, heart and soul of the Urban League movement, expanding our reach into our rural, urban and suburban communities.
Continuing that proud tradition, today's Urban League movement provides volunteer opportunities for those who are eager to get involved and become a part of the service tradition that has defined our community and our movement.
Guild membership is open to all individuals (regardless of gender, age race orethnicity), who express an interest in the mission of the National Urban League, the Urban League of San Diego County and the Urban League Guild of San Diego County - and are willing to assist in carrying its message throughout the community. Annual membership fee is a minimum $100.00.
