Press Release: Navaid Hamid- to meet with San Diego African American Leadership
San Diego, CA : Navaid Hamid, Secretary of the National Integration Council (Government of India) will be coming to San Diego to meet with African American leaders of the community.Mr. Hamid recently visited San Diego through the International Visitors Leadership Program through the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.After completing his travels across the nation, he saw the need to travel again throughout the nation on behalf of the South Asian Council for Minorities to advocate for minority mobilization for the Global Minorities Meet summit.
Mr. Hamid will be at the Urban League of San Diego County on April 16, 2010 from 5:30 -7:30 to exchange dialogue with African American leadership and grass root organizers. About Navaid Hameed’s Professional Background - Mr. Hamid is a grass roots organizer, who has long worked to promote minority rights in India. To enlarge the participation of Indian Muslims in educational institutions, decision-making bodies, and public employment he established the Association of Indian Muslims for Promoting Education and Employment of Indian Muslims in 1994. A year later, he founded the Committee for the Empowerment of Muslim Women. In 2003, Mr. Hamid was appointed Member of the prestigious National International Council, a National Body to deliberate on the issue of socio, economic integration of citizens by Prime Minister of India, as one of the members representing civil society representing different parts of India’s political spectrum.In 2008, Mr. Navid Hamid organized Global Minorities Meet, which brought together political activists from 15 countries, who are committed to advancing minority rights.A delegate from United States had representation from the African American community in the Meet too.
